The Village of Placencia is located in southern Belize at the tip of a 16 mile long and 1/4 mile wide peninsula. It is bordered by the beautiful Caribbean Sea and beach to the east and the Placencia Lagoon, a Caribbean Sea inlet to its west. Placencia Village's population is approximately 1200. It is increasingly becoming a popular tourist destination and settlement area of North Americans, who are attracted by to its white sandy beaches, warm climate and close proximity to World's the second largest barrier reef. Placencia beaches is amongst the best beaches in Belize. The Queen's Easement assures that all beachfront is open to the public. One can stroll on its white sand for miles. The sea is an easy 2 minute walk from Decked Out House. Just a 1/2 mile beach walk north is Francis Ford Copula's Turtle Inn. Placencia waters are a favorite of scuba divers and snorkelers with an average water temperature is 82 degrees F. Guests can enjoy scuba or snorkel water tours. In the spring whale sharks migrate to waters near Placencia. Divers and snorkelers can swim with a 30 ft long fish! Lodging within Placencia Village offers guests a village atmosphere. There is no need for a vehicle or frequent taxis. People walk or bicycle to Placencia's beach cafes and bars, restaurants, grocery stores, banks and a variety of shops. The Belize population is diverse in cultural background. Most citizens are Garifuna, Creole, Mayan, Hispanic, or North American in origin. Although not all speak English, the vast majority do, as it is the official national language. Spanish is taught in Belize schools.
